A New Life, One Faithful Step at a Time
“7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. 12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. 13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. 14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Some days, what we see seems louder than what we believe. An unanswered question, a lingering sorrow, or the memory of a past failure can make the next step feel uncertain. Into that uncertainty, Paul speaks these steadying words: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Faith does not ask us to pretend our troubles are unreal. It calls us to trust the Lord whose promises remain true even when their fulfillment is beyond our sight.
Paul’s confidence reaches beyond present circumstances to the hope of being with the Lord. That eternal perspective shapes his daily purpose: to please Christ. He also reminds us that we will appear before Christ’s judgment seat. Our choices matter to the Savior we serve. Walking by faith therefore involves more than waiting for circumstances to improve; it means choosing what honors Jesus today, even when obedience is costly or unnoticed.
At the heart of this life is the love of Christ. Paul declares that Jesus died and rose again so that those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him. We do not have to manufacture devotion through guilt or prove our worth through performance. We look to the crucified and risen Savior, receive His love, and let that love redirect our desires, our words, and our actions.
Then comes the beautiful declaration: anyone who is in Christ is a new creature. This is more than polishing an old image or trying harder to appear religious. Through our union with Jesus, we have a new identity and a new direction. This does not mean every struggle disappears immediately. It means our past is no longer our master, and self-centered living is no longer our calling. We belong to the One who makes us new.
Dear friend, you do not need to see the whole road to take a faithful step. Because you belong to Christ, you can answer harshness with gentleness, acknowledge a wrong, or love someone without seeking recognition. You can also learn to see others beyond outward appearances and old labels. Let the love of Jesus guide your next choice. The new life He has given you can be expressed in one ordinary act of faith today.
A Moment With God
Take a quiet moment before the Lord. What circumstance has been shaping your choices more strongly than your trust in Jesus? Tell Him honestly where you feel afraid, discouraged, or drawn back toward an old way of living.
Read verse 17 slowly, remembering that its promise rests on being in Christ, not on having a flawless day. Ask Him, “Lord, what would it look like to live for You in this situation?” Rest in His love as you consider the next faithful step.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ to die for us and rise again. When what I see fills me with fear, help me trust Your faithful Word. Thank You that in Christ I am a new creature. Teach me to turn from selfishness, face my responsibilities honestly, and make choices that please You. Let the love of Jesus guide how I speak, serve, and see the people around me. Give me courage to take today’s faithful step, even when I cannot see what comes next. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Today’s Challenge
