God Is Working Beyond What We Can See
“28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
Some days, it is difficult to see how anything good could come from what we are facing. A painful loss, an unanswered question, or a long season of waiting can leave us weary. Romans 8:28 does not ask us to pretend that every circumstance is good. It assures those who love God and are called according to His purpose that He works all things together for good.
The next verse helps us understand that promise. God’s purpose is to conform us to the image of His Son. His goodness reaches deeper than immediate comfort or a change in circumstances. Even in hardship, He can nurture Christlike patience, deepen our dependence on Him, and teach us to love with greater compassion. This does not make suffering easy, but it means suffering cannot defeat His purpose.
Paul also directs our attention to the faithfulness of God from beginning to end. The One who calls and justifies His people will not abandon His work in them. Our hope rests not in our ability to explain every sorrow, but in the God who holds our future. We may bring Him our tears without surrendering our trust.
The strongest assurance of His love is Jesus Christ. God did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us. When fear whispers that we have been forgotten, the cross reminds us how deeply we are loved. The promise of His generous care is not a guarantee of every earthly desire; it is reason to trust His wisdom and provision.
Today, you do not have to know how every piece of your story will fit together. You can take the next faithful step, knowing that God is for you in Christ. His purpose is greater than what you can presently see, and His love remains steady while you wait.
A Moment With God
Take a quiet moment with God and name the circumstance you find hardest to understand. You do not need to soften your grief or hide your questions. Ask Him to help you rest in the love revealed through Jesus, and consider this gently: What might one small step of trust look like while I wait for understanding?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us so deeply that You gave Your own Son for us. When we cannot see how You are working, help us trust Your heart without denying our pain. Comfort those who are grieving, strengthen those who are weary, and shape us into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Keep us from measuring Your goodness only by our circumstances. Teach us to walk faithfully today, confident that Your purpose will not fail. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Today’s Challenge
Write down one circumstance you cannot understand, then turn that sentence into a prayer of trust, asking God to make you more like Jesus as you walk through it.
