A Lamp for the Valley

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Psalm 119:105

A lamp in ancient times was small, a clay vessel with a flame no bigger than a thumb. It did not illuminate the horizon. It showed you where to put your foot next.

We often ask God for floodlights: show me the next five years, the outcome, the ending. He hands us a lamp instead, because faith is formed in the walking, not in the knowing.

If all you can see right now is one step, take it. The light moves as you move.

Prayer

Lord, quiet my need to see the whole road. Give me courage for the step in front of me, and let Your word be my light. Amen.
