New in Christ, Walking by Faith

“7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. 12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. 13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. 14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:7–17 (KJV)

Some mornings, the circumstances before us seem louder than the promises of God. An unanswered question, a painful memory, or an uncertain future can make the next step feel difficult. Into that uncertainty, Paul speaks these steadying words: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Faith does not ask us to pretend that hardship is unreal. It calls us to trust Jesus Christ beyond what our eyes can presently see, with confidence that our future is secure with Him.

That confidence gives our daily choices lasting significance. Paul’s desire was to please the Lord, whether living in the body or present with Him. He also reminds us that we must appear before the judgment seat of Christ. Walking by faith is therefore more than hoping things will improve; it is living today in reverent awareness of the One to whom we belong. When no one notices our honesty, patience, or quiet obedience, our Lord still sees.

Yet Paul does not leave us with accountability alone. At the heart of this new life is a powerful, gracious motivation: “For the love of Christ constraineth us.” Jesus died and rose again so that those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him. His love turns our hearts outward. Instead of asking only what will protect our comfort or improve our reputation, we begin asking how our choices can honor the Savior and serve someone He loves.

This change reaches deeper than outward behavior. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.” In Christ, we are not simply trying to polish an old identity; we have been given new life. This does not mean every struggle disappears immediately or that yesterday’s consequences cease to matter. It means our past is no longer the foundation of who we are. We belong to the crucified and risen Lord, and that belonging changes how we see ourselves and others.

Today, you do not need to see the whole road to take a faithful step. You can tell the truth, extend kindness, or choose obedience because Christ’s love has given your life a new direction. The circumstances may not change before evening, but you can meet them as someone made new in Him. Let His faithfulness—not the uncertainty before you—guide your walk.

A Moment With God

Take a quiet moment in the presence of Jesus. What circumstance has been shaping your choices more strongly than your trust in Him? Bring it honestly before the Lord, without pretending to feel stronger than you do. Then consider this question: If I approached this situation as someone made new in Christ and deeply loved by Him, what would faithful obedience look like today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for me and rising again so that I might live for You. When what I see fills me with fear, steady my heart in Your faithfulness. Forgive me for the times I have lived only for my own comfort or approval. Let Your love move me toward obedience, compassion, and truth. Teach me to live as Your new creation, remembering that my past does not define my belonging to You. Help me take today’s next step with reverence, courage, and love, seeking to please You above all. In Your holy name I pray, Amen.

Today’s Challenge

Send one sincere message of encouragement to someone facing uncertainty. Let this simple act of love be a step of faith: offer kindness without needing to know how they will respond.
