Trusting Jesus All the Way Home
“1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
There are moments when uncertainty settles heavily on the heart. We wonder what tomorrow will bring, how we will endure a painful change, or whether we will have strength for the next step. As Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, He spoke directly to their troubled hearts. His invitation was personal: believe in Me. Their comfort would rest not in understanding everything, but in trusting Him.
Jesus then turned their attention toward His Father’s house. He promised to prepare a place for them and to come again to receive them unto Himself. The deepest comfort in this promise is His presence: “that where I am, there ye may be also.” Our Christian hope is not merely a beautiful destination. It is being with the Savior who loves us and brings us to the Father.
Thomas responded with an honest question. He did not understand where Jesus was going or how to know the way. Jesus answered him with a declaration that still steadies believers today: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” He did not hand Thomas a set of directions to follow apart from Him. He pointed Thomas to Himself.
We come to the Father through Jesus Christ, not through our own goodness or our ability to make sense of every mystery. Through His death and resurrection, our Savior has provided what we could never provide for ourselves. The One who promises us a place with Him is also the One we can trust to lead us today.
Whatever troubles your heart, bring it honestly to Jesus. Trust does not require pretending that sorrow is small or questions are easy. It means resting your hope in the One whose words are true. You may not know what the next season holds, but you can follow Christ with confidence: He is the way to the Father, and His promise reaches beyond every uncertainty you face.
A Moment With God
Take a quiet moment with God and name the uncertainty weighing on your heart. Read Jesus’ words, “believe also in me,” slowly. Where have you been seeking complete understanding before you are willing to trust Him? Ask the Lord to help you rest in His character and receive the comfort of His promise to bring His people into His presence.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for welcoming us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, You know the fears and questions we carry. Teach us to trust You when the way ahead is unclear. Keep our hearts anchored in Your truth, grateful for Your cross and resurrection, and hopeful in Your promise to receive us unto Yourself. Help us follow You faithfully today, finding our peace in Your presence rather than in our circumstances. In Your holy name, Amen.
Today’s Challenge
Write down one worry you are carrying, then turn it into a prayer of trust in Jesus, using His words from John 14:1–6 to guide you.
